The Expansion Mic extends the audio pickup range of the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+, by 8 feet (2.5 meters) in the direction of the microphone to maximize pickup of voices that are quieter or further away so that remote participants can clearly hear all in-room participants. The Expansion Mic comes with the added benefit of making the Mute/unmute button more accessible in the meeting space, so that more people can Mute/Unmute the entire microphone system during a meeting.

Setup Instructions

1. Remove the Expansion Port cover from the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+. This can be found below the Volume +/- buttons at the base of the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+. 

2. Plug the Expansion Mic Cable into both the Expansion Mic and the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+.

   1. You will hear a short chime from the Meeting Owl 3 of 4+’s speaker, indicating a successful connection to the Expansion Mic.

3. Place the Expansion Mic at least 6 feet (1.5 meters) away from the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+. The Meeting Owl 3 or 4+ should be at least 18 inches (0.5m) from the monitor/TV.

4. Position the Expansion Mic so that its microphone is pointed in the direction of the room that needs to be covered, and the cable is facing the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+. The Expansion Mic’s microphone is located on the side opposite the cable.

5. You’re all set! The Meeting Owl 3 or 4+ will automatically begin using the Expansion Mic as an extension of its audio pickup.

6. During the meeting, press the Mute button on the top of the Expansion Mic to mute/unmute the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+ and Expansion Mic’s combined microphone system.

The Expansion Mic has a pickup range of 8 feet (2.5 m) in the direction of the mic, increasing the Owl’s total pickup range from 18ft to 26 ft.

This range can be further extended by using a combination of Owl Connect and Expansion Mic(s). Connect one or both Owls to an Expansion Mic to achieve the range best suited for your setup. When two Meeting Owl 3s are paired using Owl Connect and each connected to an Expansion Mics, large meeting spaces can be fully covered with up to 60 feet (18 meters) of audio pickup from end to end.

After you have finished setting up your Expansion Mic, you can ensure that it is both powered On and has a successful connection to your Meeting Owl 3 by either of the following methods:

1. Speaker Chime: When your Meeting Owl 3 or 4+ and Expansion Mic are connected, your Meeting Owl 3’s speaker will play a short chime, indicating a successful wired connection to the Expansion Mic.

   1. The Meeting Owl 3 or 4+ will also play a similar chime to indicate that the wired connection to the Expansion Mic was lost.

2. Meeting Owl App: When the Meeting Owl 3 or 4+ and Expansion Mic are connected, an “Expansion Mic” section will appear in the Meeting Owl App. Follow the instructions below to check:

   1. Open the Meeting Owl app.

   2. Select your Meeting Owl 3 from the Nearby Owls list.

   3. Select About Your Owl.

   4. Scroll to the bottom of the page, where you will see your Expansion Mic’s Hardware Serial and Software Version, indicating a successful wired connection to the Owl.
